Abstract

The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of ethanolic extract of propolis (EEP) on incidence of brown eye spot and development of coffee cv.‘Catuaí vermelho’. The experiment was arranged in a randomized block design with five replications and ten plants per plot. The experiment was a factorial scheme 4 x 6. The first factor EEP were made with four different percentages in the composition of raw propolis (1, 4, 7 and 10% of raw propolis with ethanol 92%). The second factor was the dilution of the EEP in water (0, 0.5, 1.0, 1.5, 2.0 and 2.5%). It was found that the EEP increased leaf area and leaf number per plot and growing quadratically. It was observed, with the curve of brown eye spot behavior that concentrations 1.0, 1.5 and 2.0% EEP had lower incidence, 2.5% intermediate and the control and 0.5% EEP had the highest incidence. The area under the curve of progress of brown eye spot leaf spot reduced quadratically with the implementation of EEP regardless of the proportion of the raw propolis extract. The increase in seedling growth was attributed to the presence of nutrients in propolis and reduced incidence of brown eye spot with application of EEP. The control of brown eye spot was awarded to the presence of nutrients, the formation of a layer of impediment on the sheets with wax and propolis resistance inducing effect of propolis.
