The first researches at the Faculty of Architecture and Urbanism at the University of Brasília

Abstract

The University of Brasilia began operating in the second half of 1962 with the first trunk courses and several postgraduate courses, to get into full operation, UnB needed to rely on qualified technical professionals and professors. Darcy Ribeiro has worked to attract recognized researchers throughout the country, these, in turn, created work and research teams, attracting newly graduated young people to master's courses, with the aim of forming a teaching staff for themselves and for other institutions. It is estimated that approximately fifteen to twenty names of architects, between Brazilian students and two foreigners underwent the first graduate program in architecture, between 1962 and 1965. Only the eleven completed their dissertations that were studied and presented together, showing the variety of themes and reflections on theory of architecture and urbanism, with emphasis on Brasilia still under construction. The architect João Filgueiras Lima, Lelé, played a fundamental role, as responsible for graduate studies, his interest in the industrialization of construction was an important theme and present in discussions and research, as a advisor, transformed research into project politico-pedagogical.
