Abstract

Oliveira died in the 23th of September, 2006, at the age of 72, concluding 50 years of activity as a fine artist. Member of the Santa Helena group, from Sao Paulo, he has helped foundering the painting school of Goiania, but ended up living in a self-exile, in nearby LuzitInia. He has not yet been recognized as a great artist. Because the founders of Brasilia chose abstract modernism, and be-cause he has deviated from the simple geometry of his friend Volpi, DJ was put aside as an inferior artist by those who became consecra-ted by local power. Time will come when the dominating scheme, in which the protegees of the owners of power”” as if the latter were also the owners of knowledge or the embodiment of the transcendental subject ”” are seen as great artists, will be revised.
