2) Dossier “Pandemics, rights and social movements”
The Covid-19 pandemic shook the world and generated an unprecedented health crisis, which joined the various crises that humanity was going through before 2020: economic, environmental, political, ideological crisis, etc. Although there are different perspectives on the post-pandemic world, the analyzes have been unanimous regarding the worsening of social, economic, political and geopolitical inequalities.
Social movements have been deeply impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic. The struggles for rights had to adapt to the necessary measures of social isolation; the lack of access to technological resources has silenced and made invisible many demands; new struggles and new social movements have emerged in this context; solidarity campaigns were organized to address the most basic needs of the people; the working class is faced with new dilemmas imposed by remote work, or by face-to-face work without the most basic security conditions to avoid further contagion; the enormous amount of contaminated ones intensifies the pressure on public health systems, which already came from previous processes of precariousness and privatization.
In this sense, according to the IPDMS campaign “Rights and movements in times of pandemic”, InSURgencia: rights and social movements review will organize the dossier entitled “Pandemics, rights and social movements”, with the objective of publishing articles that reflect on the impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic on the struggles of social movements in Brazil and other countries.
The articles may be descriptive and/or analytical, theoretical and/or empirical, reports of personal experiences or collective experiences in struggle for rights, focusing on the different types of social movements impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic: teaching, student movement, peasant, unions, health, environmentalists, women, indigenous, black people, quilombolas etc.
Beyound sending academic articles to the dossier, we also want to reinforce the invitation for publication in the following sections of the journal: In defense of research (free articles section); Generating themes (entry section); Political poetics (section of texts and artistic manifestations); Return notebook (text review section).
