A diachronic view of language learning strategies

Resumen

The present paper adopts a chronological perspective to report the development of Language Learning Strategy research in the last forty years. First, relevant strategy research is reviewed and findings from seminal studies are examined. Then, a brief overview of intervention studies is provided. Important discussions include the birth of strategy studies, controversies surrounding the field, issues in strategy training, as well as contributions from this research area to second / foreign language instruction. The paper concludes with future research directions.

Possui graduação em Licenciatura na área de Letras Inglês pela Universidade de Brasília e mestrado em Linguística Aplicada pela University College London, UCL (Conselho Britânico, 2014). Cursa doutorado em Linguística na Universidade de Brasília. Tem experiência na área de Linguística e Literatura como professora do curso de graduação em Letras - Português e Letras - Inglês na Universidade Católica de Brasília, UCB (atual), Faculdade Senac DF (atual), na Universidade de Brasília e no curso de mestrado em TESOL da University College London, com ênfase em Morfossintaxe do Inglês, Literaturas de Língua Inglesa, Práticas Orais e Redacionais e Ensino de Línguas Estrangeiras. É membro do Núcleo Docente Estruturante do curso PRIL - Letras na UCB. Também possui experiência como professora de inglês em cursos regulares e preparatórios para exames de Cambridge, e como assistente de pesquisa em pós-graduação (University of Liverpool, 2021 - ; UCL, 2017-2018; University of York, 2017-2018). Seus interesses dentro da área de Linguística Aplicada incluem Aquisição de Segunda Língua (ASL), variações individuais em ASL, ensino de L2 e fatores socioafetivos no ensino/aquisição de L2.
