Marx did not systematically write about what he called in the 1857 Introduction of “the artistic way of reflecting the world”, but we know of his mention about the hostility of capitalism to art. György Lukács treated this hostility and the unequal development of artistic genres in his Aesthetics and in the fourth and final volume of the work, dedicated a chapter to the peculiarities of the aesthetic reflex in music, architecture, crafts, gardening and cinema. He resumed these studies in his Towards an Ontology of Social Being to show how the hostility pointed out by Marx affected the autonomous and unequal development of the arts and various artistics genres.
