Focus and Scope

The journal caleidoscópio: literatura e tradução  publishes translations, artworks (poems, tales, images, photographs, etc.), articles, translated articles interviews, book reviews and translation reviews related to the following field work: Translation Studies, Literature, Philosophy, Arts, Anthropology, Sociology and Linguistics which the focus is the translation.

The journal caleidoscópio: literatura e tradução receives unpublished submissions of poems, tales, self-translations, images, photographs and all illustrations that are somehow related to the journal’s scope. The submitted material must be unpublished.

The Reviews of Translations section receives unpublished reviews with critical comments on translated works of different language pairs.

DOSSIER

In special situations, lecturers and researchers (experienced in the areas encompassed by the journal) are invited to organize a dossier to compose the regular edition of the journal caleidoscópio: literatura e tradução. The Dossier organizer assumes the initial responsibility of evaluating the submissions accomplished. The second evaluator is designated by the editor-in-chief of the journal, which invites editorial or ad hoc staff members who have their lines of research and their productions aligned with the proposed theme. The documents are undergo blind evaluation in this section. Papers must conform to the focus and scope of the journal, and constitute a special content of the regular edition. The dossiers contribute to the growth of the journal and foster valuable discussions at national and international levels, as well as enhancing the interdisciplinary character of translation. Authors should pay attention to the deadlines for submitting papers published in calls for publication on our website and social network.

INTERVIEWS

 The journal caleidoscópio: literatura e tradução receives unpublished submissions of interviews that publicize a personality or a less publicly known person whose work remits to the journal’s scope.

TRANSLATIONS

The journal caleidoscópio: literatura e tradução receives, for its various numbers, non-published translations. The translations will be the result of the pairing of both major and minor languages or, in other words, both the languages that have a great visibility and the languages that do not.

Peer Review Process

The original articles, interviews and reviews submitted to the journal caleidoscópio: literatura e tradução are forwarded to the editor-in-chief and to the assistant editor, member of the editorial committee of the journal. This review is an initial assessment to verify if the paper fits the journal guidelines and if an external evaluation is justified. After this preliminary assessment the papers are evaluated under the respective thematic by two referees members of the editorial committee, advisory council or ad hoc consultants.

In the case of disagreement between the reviews, the paper is submitted to a third referee. All the referees receive the papers via website. The deadline for the completion of the evaluation process may vary between three and six months.

All submitted papers are assessed using a blind review system. The referees receive the paper to be assessed, a standard evaluation form and a statement of "conflict of interest" to be signed and sent to the editor-in-chief of the journal.

Note: a conflict of interest occurs when an author (or the author's institution), reviewer, referee or editor has financial or personal links that influence inappropriately their actions.

The papers can be:

- accepted in full, without restrictions;

- accepted in full, changes required;

or

- refused.

The paper submitted in docx format by the authors cannot contain personal or academic information. However, the authors must fill in the form with their academic data that is included in the steps of papers submissions. These academic data will only be used in case of acceptance and publication of the paper. 

- Both refused and accepted collaborations are communicated to the authors via website on the condition of anonymity of the peer appraisers.

In the case of refusal the advisory council and the editorial committee of the journal reserves the right not to comment the reasons that affected the decision. 

 

Publication Frequency

Semiannually issues (June and December).

The caleidoscópio: literatura e tradução journal reserves the right to not publish more than one submission per author per year.

 Authors who publish with this journal agree to the following terms:
    1. Authors retain copyright and grant the journal right of first publication with the work simultaneously licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution License that allows others to share the work with an acknowledgement of the work's authorship and initial publication in this journal.
    2. Authors are able to enter into separate, additional contractual arrangements for the non-exclusive distribution of the journal's published version of the work (e.g., post it to an institutional repository or publish it in a book), with an acknowledgement of its initial publication in this journal.
    3. Authors are permitted and encouraged to post their work online (e.g., in institutional repositories or on their website) prior to and during the submission process, as it can lead to productive exchanges, as well as earlier and greater citation of published work (See The Effect of Open Access).

Open Access Policy

This journal offers immediate open access to its content. The aim is offer free scientific knowledge to the public and  provide greater global democratization of knowledge. 

 

Archiving

This journal uses the LOCKSS system to create a distributed file system between participating libraries, and allows them to create permanent journal files for preservation and restoration.

About the Journal

The journal caleidoscópio: literatura e tradução  is a publication of the research group Walter Benjamin: tradução, linguagem e experiência attached to the Programa de Pós-Graduação em Literatura from the Universidade de Brasília. The journal semiannually discloses theoretical or applied papers on the fields described on its scope, presented in the form of articles, translations, interviews, reviews and images. The research group is registered in the Diretório de Grupos de Pesquisa of the CNPq [National Council for Scientific and Technological Development] since 2012.

 

Regular Issues

The journal caleidoscópio: literatura e tradução accepts submissions for its arts sections (poems, short stories, illustrations, self-translations), articles, translated articles, interviews, special dossiers, reviews, translation reviews and translations related to the following fields of knowledge: Studies in Translation, Literature, Philosophy, Arts, Anthropology, Sociology and Linguistics whose focus is a translation. In special situations, lecturers and researchers are invited to organize a Dossier to compose an edition of the periodical edition of the journal. Papers submitted to this special section must be in accordance with the focus and scope of the journal, they also constitute a special content of the regular edition.
