Review of the book “Autonomy and selfgovenrment in Diverse America”, Miguel González, Aracely Burguete, Pablo Mariman y Ritzuko Funaki (eds.), Quito, Abya Yala, 2021. The book fills a gap in contemporary literature by analysing ongoing processes of autonomy implemented by indigenous and Afro-descendant peoples in different national contexts in the Americas. It also offers a critical view of recognition policies regarding indigenous rights in the perspective of plurinational and plural States. Based on concrete experiences of selgovernment, it reports on the innovations and renewed strength of indigenous peoples to exercise their right to self-determination.
Keywords: autonomies, self-government, indigenous peoples, Diverse America.
