Al-Nakba, exile and the right of return in palestinian graffiti
Keywords:
Al-nakba, Graffiti, Palestine, HandalaAbstract
The article seeks to present and analyze the graffiti produced in the regions of Gaza and the West Bank that discuss and relate to the events of 1948, known as al-nakba (the catastrophe) and the demands for return arising from these events. From this, the objective is to highlight the close relations established between this cultural production and the socio-political agendas that extend to the present day. To this end, we started, initially, from a brief analysis of al-nakba as a historical event and, from that, we observed the contemporary graphite productions and identified elements and repertoires that connect the current demands with the events of 1948. In this sense, central signs for the communication of politically active messages around these demands were identified.
