Resumen

RESUMO - Trata-se de uma revisão da literatura sobre a dificuldade específica de leitura, ou dislexia, sob duas perspectivas: a da identificação de déficits cognitivos e a da abordagem do processamento de informação. Dados indicam que a dificuldade principal dos disléxicos parece estar associada a déficits na memória verbal e nos processos de segmentação e síntese de fonemas, embora, recentemente, a possibilidade de um outro tipo de dislexia, resultante de uma dificuldade específica com o processamento lexical, tenha também sido adequadamente identificada. É demonstrado como modelos de processamento da fala e da escrita podem ser usados para explicar e definir a natureza das dificuldades fonológicas e lexicais das crianças disléxicas.
