Voisin Rational Grazing (VRG) is a complex system, which is usually adopted gradually. The objective of the work was to identify the degree of adoption of VRG characteristics in family farms in Uruguay with the VRG Conformity Index (VRG-IC), and to determine which characteristics were prioritized by the farmers. Four family farms were analyzed, three of them raised cattle and the other one raised sheep. The VRG-IC was elaborated for each farm based on data collection for ten characteristics related to the grazing method, animal welfare, and environmental care. The average VRG-IC was 81%. All farms obtained the maximum score for number of paddocks, non-use of agrochemicals, and non-use of chemical fertilizers. The lowest score was for shade availability in paddocks. The high adoption of the characteristics related to the environment seems to reflect their prioritization by farmers.
