Abstract

This study aimed to assess the population of Acari and Collembola present in cultivated areas with different winter cover. The experimental design was randomized blocks evaluating six treatments, with six replications. After 141, 155 and 178 days after sowing, soil samples were collected and the extraction of mesofauna was performed by the Berlese-Tullgreen method. Treatments "A. strigosa + V. villosa + R. sativus", " R. Sativa" and "A. Strigosa" exceeded 4.2 Mg dry matter ha-1 phytomass accumulation. The number of organisms varied significantly between treatments analyzed which at the first assessment the treatment "R. Sativus" had the highest number of individuals of Acari groups (45433) and Collembola (18801), at the second assessment the treatment "A. strigosa + V. villosa" with 17973 for the Acari group and 11820 for group Collembola individuals and the third treatment "A. strigosa + V. villosa" presented for the Acari group 20605 individuals and 11820 for the Collembola group which it was observed no difference between treatments. Acari and Collembola populations are influenced by the type of existing phytomass on the soil surface.
