Solar distillation in order to provide drinking water to the family farmers’family

With the goal of providing potable water to farmers in the semiarid northeastern Brazil, we studied the technical feasibility of a solar still in the process of desalination of water for human consumption consisting of a solar collector for heating water saline. Two methods were backed driving the flow of water from the solar collector to the evaporation pan. In Method 1 (M1) the water flow was constant (h-1L 1), maintaining a 10 mm slide within the masonry box. In Method 2 (M2) the flow of water coming from the solar collector, occurred only at 15 hours when the distiller/condenser was filled with hot water that comes from the solar collector, and after supplying the water flow was stopped. The volumes of distilled water produced in the system are sufficient to meet the needs of water for direct consumption ofa family in the countryside. On average the production of distilled water for solar radiation incident on the system M2 was 46.87% higher than in M1.
