The biosolids in the heavy metals Content in tomato (Lycopersicon esculentum Mill) cultivated soil

With the aim of evaluating the impact of land application of biosolids on heavy metal concentration in the soil-plant system and soil microbiological composition, this work was carried out in the National Institute of Agricultural Sciences, La Havana, Cuba. The application the biosolids in a compacted Red Ferralitic soil increased copper (Cu), nickel (Ni) and zinc (Zn) content in the substrate, while iron (Fe) and manganese (Mn) content was diminished, behaviour that maintained the same tendency when evaluating different organs of the plants. The concentrations of heavy metal in the substrate and in vegetable organs did not represent fitotoxic risks since they were inferior to the levels considered as maximum allowed for the soil type and for tomato plants.
