History
The Paranoá Journal was created in 2003 as the main publishing effort maintained by the Graduate Program of the School of Architecture and Urbanism of the University of Brasilia – PPG-FAU-UnB. In its early years, the journal focused mainly on disseminating the production of professors and researchers from the Program itself. In that initial period, the editions of Paranoá were based on printed numbers and had irregular periodicity due to the broader context of restructuring and expansion of the academic activities of the PPG-FAU.
As of 2012, the journal became more regular, with the publication of at least two annual issues. Since then, through its thematic dossiers, the Paranoá journal has registered the production of laboratories, groups, and research centers, in its national and international dialogues, allowing for the diversity of themes and approaches that characterize its trajectory. In addition, in its special issues, the magazine was the vehicle for the dissemination of research presented at important scientific events and meetings held at UnB.
In 2018, the Graduate Program began a process of review and reorganization of Paranoa editorial production, aiming at its consolidation as a solid national scientific journal, with open and free access online, guided by parameters and criteria established by comprehensive and multidisciplinary indexes. This process was expanded from 2020 onwards, when the engagement of PPG-FAU professors and researchers increased in the maintenance and qualification of the journal, adopting, on the other hand, a firm stance against endogenous practices. The restructuring process included the renovation of the editorial staff and the board of editors, the organization of a team of assistants for managing the editorial schedules and graphic design, and the expansion and revision of the panel of reviewers. All these actions were closely advised by the journals area of the UnB Central Library.
The three current sections of the journal correspond to the three areas of research of the PPG-FAU, and are led by specific associate editors, under the coordination of the chief editor. At a time of great challenges to maintain the regular publication of qualified open journals in Brazil, the Paranoá Journal reaffirms its commitment to the wide and free dissemination of knowledge and to the transparency of its editorial processes.
