Abstract

Improving the energy performance of public buildings is an important strategy to reduce government spending on electricity consumption, and to the decrease CO² emissions related to the sector. It is known that in public buildings, air conditioning systems can account for 50% of the total energy consumption, and that their performance is directly related to the energetic efficiency of the envelope. In this context, this article presents a blueprint for the retrofit of the Darcy Ribeiro Building, headquarters of the Office of the Comptroller General (CGU), in Brasília, demonstrating its impact on the energy efficiency, as well as the cost-benefit of the intervention, by calculating its payback. To do so, the study was carried out in 4 stages, the first being the qualitative evaluation of the current energy efficiency of the building, through the Benchmarking Calculation Platform of Public Buildings, and the evaluation of the efficiency of its envelope, by applying the prescriptive method of the RTQ-C. The blueprint was proposed in a second stage, including an estimated budget. Afterwards, computational simulations were carried out with the software Design Builder (version 4.5), in order to quantify the gain in the thermal performance of the building. Finally, the payback calculation was done, which demonstrated the economic feasibility of the intervention.
