Resumen

Los esqueletos y modelos de ballenas son recurrentes en museos de historia natural. A partir de una colección de casos europeos y americanos, esta pantalla se utiliza como herramienta de análisis e interfaz entre campos del conocimiento. Por medio de las discusiones sobre los desafíos expográficos impuestos por la anatomía de los cetáceos es evidenciada la circulación de teorías, técnicas curatoriales, esquemas, objetose profesionales, temas pertinentes a la Historia de las Ciencias. En el ámbito de la Museología, se aborda polisemia de los objetos en exposiciones. En el caso de las ballenas suspendidas están presentes en exposiciones científicas desde el siglo XIX, se nota que los significados imbuidos trascienden la comunicación de conceptos científicos, remitiendo a mitologías, pautas institucionales o cultura de masa y fetiche, factores que también determinan su presencia en exposiciones.
