Publication of the dossier "Access to justice, struggles for rights, and state practices" (v. 12, n. 1, 2026)
It is with great pleasure that InSURgência: revista de direitos e movimentos sociais [InSURgência: journal of rights and social movements] releases the dossier "Access to justice, struggles for rights, and state practices" organized by Phillipe Cupertino Salloum e Silva (UFJ), Brígida Renoldi (UNaM/CONICET/FHyCS), and Luiz Eduardo de Vasconcellos Figueira (UFRJ).
Drawing from the intersection of the epistemological fields of Anthropology, Sociology, and Law, the dossier brings together academic works that analyze the relationships between the justice system, the Rule of Law, and multiple forms of social mobilization for rights. The articles address themes such as violence, urban and rural land conflicts, gender, sexuality, race and ethnicity, kinship, human rights, labor, and social vulnerabilities, highlighting how access to justice constitutes a field of material, symbolic, and institutional disputes. The dossier also features experience reports stemming from university and popular outreach practices - contexts that equally contribute to the formulation of theoretical-empirical reflections on the justice system.
This edition, covering the January–June 2026 semester and published in March, is available on the InSURgência website.
In addition to 12 original articles selected by the Organizing Committee, this issue includes an interview with Mário Soares Caymmi Gomes, a retired judge from the State of Bahia, as well as poems in memoriam of Tancredo Gomes Fernandes, a youth activist and jurist from Paraíba. The dossier is further complemented by 7 articles on diverse topics in our In defense of research section and, in the Generating Themes section, an entry on the life and legacy of Camilo Torres.
We extend our gratitude to everyone who contributed to this twenty-first edition, especially to our comrades at IPDMS and the collaborators who join us in the militant construction of an insurgent journal.
We invite everyone to read and engage in the debate!
InSURgent greetings,
Editorial Team and Dossier Organizing Committee,
April 2026.
