Intentional Object and Correlate: From Brentano to Marty

Abstract

The aim of this article is to amend some misunderstandings about Franz Brentano's thesis of
intentionality, defending a different interpretation from the current one about the nature of intentional object and intentional correlate, and proposing an analysis of the origin of this conceptual confusion. The main problem lies in his student Anton Marty's interpretation of the immanent object, paving
the way for an immanentist reading of Brentano's theory of intentionality.

Mauro Antonelli, Universidade de Milão-Bicocca, Itália

Professor Titular de psicologia na Universidade de Milão-Bicocca (Itália), onde dirige o Centro Aspi - Arquivo histórico da psicologia italiana. Também é livre docente (Privatdozent) de Filosofia na Universidade de Graz (Áustria).

Federico Boccaccini, Universidade de Brasília, UnB

Atualmente é professor visitante (2018-2022) no Departamento de Filosofia da Universidade de Brasília, onde ensina Filosofia Moderna e Metafísica, e collaborateur scientifique no Departamento de Filosofia da Universidade de Liège (Bélgica). Foi pesquisador pós-doutorado (2014-2017) no Fundo Nacional Belga para Pesquisa Científica (F.R.S.-FNRS). Após seu mestrado e doutorado em Filosofia na Sorbonne (Paris1) e graduação em Filosofia na La Sapienza de Roma, entrou no Departamento de Liège em 2011 como pós-doutorando (2011-2013) e depois como pesquisador associado ao projeto "A Escola de Brentano" dirigido por A. Dewalque (2013-2014). Em 2013 foi academic visitor no Corpus Christi College, Universidade de Oxford.
