Urban walkgraphy based on 100 images of pelotas architecture

Abstract

The article analyzes photographs and videos captured in 2023, 25 years after the publication of the book 100 Imagens da Arquitetura Pelotense (1998), recognized as an essential source for the architectural history of Pelotas. The methodology used was urban walkgraphy, experimented by Architecture and Urbanism students at UFPel, who reflected and created on the practice. The analysis reveals few changes in the appearance of the buildings, but major transformations in their uses and denominations over time. It is concluded that the study highlights the continuing importance of the book in selecting and documenting architectural specimens; and highlight the changes in Pelotas’ cultural heritage through photography, video and urban exploration, highlighting the dynamics between past-present-future in the city’s architectural and urban landscape.
