Linguística Ecossistêmica
Keywords:
Language; Ecology; Ecosystemic linguistics; Ecology of communicative interaction.Abstract
The main objective of this article is to present the Brazilian version of ecolinguistics, called ecosystemic linguistics (EL). Its name is due to the fact that it departs from the central concept of ecology, ecosystem, in order to build its epistemological foundations. The central concept of the ecosystem is interaction. For this reason, the kern of EL is the ecology of communicative interaction (dialogue). This, on its part takes place inside a linguistic ecosystem, as a speech community which generally belongs to a larger language community. The article also shows that EL does not use ecological concepts as mere metaphors. On the contrary, it is linguistic ecology, not ecological linguistics. Its practitioners are ecologists studying linguistic phenomena, not linguists dealing with language phenomena using ecological concepts as metaphors. EL sees its object holistically. It departs from the ecological view of the world, from which one can study both external (linguistic exoecology) and internal language phenomena (linguistic endoecology). The former includes ecological discourse analysis.
