The present paper consists in an analysis of the concept of “fantastic notion” in Gilles Deleuze’s Difference and Repetition through its relation the philosophy of Alfred North Whitehead. The purpose in question is, not only to expose the importance of Whitehead’s thought in Deleuze’s philosophy, but also to show how this notions may work as a valid criterion for the thought of a speculative metaphysics. Deleuze’s concept of fantastic notion intends to think the immanence of the condition to the conditioned rejoining the two senses of aesthetics ”“ the theory of the sensible and the theory of the beautiful ”“ in a nomadic distribution which displaces the subject. After answering the question of how well suited Whitehead’s concepts are in relation to this fantastic notions, we shall propose some metametaphysical questions in order to precise the function and importance of a speculative metaphysics.
