Abstract

To what extent does Gilberto Freyre collaborate with the continuity and/or the discontinuity of Brazilian regionalism? To answer this question, the text discusses the eagerness for national representation along the Brazilian literary history, the Freyrean concept of novel and the concept of mimesis involved in this problematic, using as starting point the characteristics present in the novel A bagaceira, founder of the literary generation of 1930, decade on which the Freyrean influence is undeniable.
