Die Manen [Os manes] é o quarto texto da obra Gedichte und Phantasien [Poemas e fantasias], de Karoline von Günderrode, publicada em 1804 sob o pseudônimo Tian e composta por poemas e fragmentos de drama e de prosa (BIBLIOTHECA AUGUSTANA, 2021). Manes, na mitologia romana, é o termo utilizado para designar o coletivo dos mortos, que, mesmo habitando a outra vida, ainda influenciam esta (MARK, 2019). Esse aspecto perene do espírito ”“ que perdura mesmo após a morte da carne ”“ é o tema do fragmento, construído de forma a representar poeticamente a amizade (um diálogo entre iguais), que para Günderrode era a dimensão humana do amor (HILMES, 2004, p. 68). Tal diálogo é protagonizado no texto por um discípulo e um mestre, que discutem sobre o efeito e a durabilidade dos grandes atos e de vidas grandiosas e sobre a possibilidade da conexão entre espíritos, de pessoas vivas ou mortas.
