Abstract

Currently, translation studies have shown great interest in gender and sexuality issues and how translating can (and should) embrace constantly marginalized voices, especially by the media. In this article, we analyzed the slangs and dialogues of the drag queens in the American reality show Rupaul’s Drag Race, as well as the Portuguese subtitles made available by Netflix for the show. Thus, we intend to highlight the devices used in an attempt to maintain, in the target language, the queer vocabulary adopted by the reality show participants through, mainly, the Pajubá.
