Abstract

The translator’s invisibility has been discussed within translation studies, especially in relation to literary texts. However, when it comes to the translation of comic books, this issue is rarely studied, causing a gap in the field. In Brazil, the production and the circulation of comics have increased thanks to their increasing popularization, generating a new editorial market demand: the translation of comics. Thus, the present work aims at reflecting on the question of the translator's visibility in comics, presenting some examples for discussion, and also reflecting on possible reasons for such visibility appear to be more possible in such a genre. To achieve its purposes and contribute to the study of the translation of comics, the theoretical background adopted focuses on possible relations between text and image by Barthes (1990), and some considerations on comics by Umberto Eco (1993), which support the reflections and analyses.
