Abstract

This article explores the historical and epistemological evolution of scientific thought, from Democritus' atomist philosophy to the development of quantum mechanics. From the perspective of Gaston Bachelard's epistemology, it examines how epistemological ruptures were fundamental in overcoming obstacles and transforming paradigms, thus building new foundations for scientific knowledge. The approach integrates historical, philosophical, and pedagogical elements, emphasizing the importance of discontinuities in the advancement of science. Within this context, the research question investigated in this study is: how can the epistemological ruptures between Democritus' atomism and quantum mechanics be understood in light of Gaston Bachelard's epistemology? To address this question, the objective is to analyze how these ruptures contributed to the development of scientific knowledge, articulating a historical and philosophical approach that integrates Bachelardian ideas into the context of knowledge construction and reconstruction.
