SIMULATION OR SIMULACRUM: CONTEMPORARY SOCCER FROM ANDREAS GURSKY’S PHOTOGRAPHY
Abstract
As the game is permeable to unpredictability in its development, it is essential, when
playing, to understand what is happening in such an environment. However, in con-
temporary times, football shows itself, like society, tied to a way of playing devoid of
risks and unpredictability. In this sense, the essay aims to report the influence and
changes made by contemporary society in the game/sport of football. As a result, post-
modern reality will be themes covered during the text so that it is possible to inaugu-
rate the understanding of contemporary football based on Andreas Gursky's photog-
raphy and the concept of the sublime originating from Kant, coinciding, therefore, in
a form of playing tied to the Baudrillardian simulacrum, that is, devoid of understand-
ing the game environment.
