NEW PERSPECTIVES OF CENSORSHIP OF THE ARTS IN THE INTERNATIONAL SCENE
Abstract
This essay is associated with studies on contemporary censorship practices. The object is the contemporary international forms of restricting the freedom of expression
of artists and professionals in the cultural market. We started by reviewing the literature, observing the new frameworks for censorship practices. We dialogue with studies
on classical and post-censorship, presenting several cases of restriction of freedom
of expression. The choice of these cases was based on the relevance and diversity of
examples of censorship in different social and political contexts. We argue the need
for broader understandings of contemporary censorship processes, a global phenomenon, linked to expressions of popular harassment and silent forms of self-censorship.
