Brasilia and urban art through graffiti

writing a new Invible City

Abstract

This research is the result of theory and practice involving literature, internet and graffiti. Starting from readings and evidences from Italo Calvino’s book The Invisible Cities, we started comparisons between imagined cities from the book and contemporary cities, which carry plenty of characteristics described in the book. Brasilia, as the main object of study, has also several of these characteristics depending on the viewer’s perception; and we propose to, inspired by the works of Calvino, write a new Invisible City showing one side of Brazilian’s Capital. We chose Urban Art, specifically graffiti’s language, as basement for the story to be written. Concerning the methodology, as a way to enter in this face of the city, we’ve chosen technology and sharing of imagens through social networks in Brasilia. To complete, we have compiled the images found and, along with the personal vision of the researcher / traveler in this Invisible City, we propose writing a new tale with characteristics of Brasilia, having Calvino as inspiration to literature style.
