SIGNS OF IDENTITY CONFLICTS OBTAINED BY PROJECTIVE TECHNIQUES
Abstract
The objective of the present study was to determine the
identity conflicts revealed by the projective techniques HTP, Pfister,
Rorschach and Desiderative applied to ten adult male and female
patients from the Psychiatric Outpatient Clinic of the University
Hospital, Faculty of Medicine of Ribeirão Preto, USP, who exhibited
clinical signs of identity conflicts expressed as sexual and family
problems and as difficulties in relating to others, with signs of impaired
self-esteem. The protocols for each technique were first evaluated, with
emphasis on indices corresponding to identity conflicts, and later defined
and systematized. The systematization of the indices detected with a combination
of the four techniques permitted the delimitation of the signs of identity
conflicts linked to self-image expressed as emotional immaturity, withdrawal from reality, and difficulty in controlling impulses, with
better elucidation of the dynamic diagnosis through the understanding
of the level of impairment, as an adjunctive resource to treatment
through brief psychotherapy.
