Abstract

To study the Brazilian politician image, a sample of 325
male and female subjects was selected. The subjects were aged 16 to 67
years-old and the schooling levei ranged from high school to the university.
Subjects had to evaluate Brazilian politicians according to 15 adjectives,
and to define the three main characteristicis of the ideal politicians. Subjects
were also asked to specify the priorities for the new government.
Results showed an extremelly negative image of the politician, depicted
as ambitious, oportunist, corrupt, negligent and unconcerned with public
welfare. The ideal politician should be honest, intelligent and responsible
public servant. Education, health and housing were considered as more
important priorities for the next goverment than inflation or foreign debt.
