China and Latin America

the development of a new centre-periphery relationship

Abstract

It analyzes the process of semi-peripheralization and peripheralization that Latin America is undergoing, as a consequence of the growth and development achieved by China in the last forty years. It shows the contrast between the high economic development achieved by China and the difficulties of Latin American countries to reduce their backwardness and dependence on the most dynamic economies of world capitalism. It concludes that the position and the economic, scientific and technological power achieved by China show the resounding failure of the development strategies implemented by the countries in Latin America.
