Women's Entrepreneurship and Violence Against Women

A Literature Review

Abstract

This study aims to propose a research agenda to broaden the discussion on the impacts of female entrepreneurship on the reduction of violence against women, contributing to the development of public policy proposals that promote women’s financial autonomy. It is recognized that such autonomy is a fundamental right, according to the precepts of the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW). To this end, a systematic literature review was conducted, combining bibliometric analysis of academic literature on the topic. The bibliometric findings indicate that the academic literature in this field is expanding but remains limited and weakly consolidated, particularly in Brazil and in the Latin American context. The results of the discussion suggest that female entrepreneurship contributes to financial autonomy; however, it does not, by itself, ensure the reduction of violence. Isolated interventions tend to yield limited results, whereas integrated approaches demonstrate greater effectiveness. Violence also constrains entrepreneurial trajectories, undermining the effectiveness of policies aimed at promoting entrepreneurship. This study organizes a fragmented field, identifies research gaps, and proposes a research agenda that articulates women's Entrepreneurship, financial autonomy, and the prevention of violence, offering inputs for more effective public policies.
