A Eternidade Atemporal é a Única Opção para o Teísta?

Resumo

As religiões teístas assumem que Deus possui certos atributos como onisciência, onipotência perfeita bondade e eternidade. Filósofos da religião submetem tais conceitos religiosos a uma análise crítica e, geralmente, têm diferentes perspectivas sobre que significa cada um deles. Há duas perspectivas principais sobre o atributo da eternidade: a eternidade envolve tempo ou não envolve tempo. Durante a maior parte da tradição filosófica teísta, a eternidade atemporal foi considerada a melhor interpretação por algumas razões, entre elas: a imutabilidade absoluta de Deus garante sua perfeição e incorruptibilidade; a atemporalidade responde melhor às questões sobre o que fazia Deus antes de criar o mundo e como conciliar onisciência e livre-arbítrio. Entretanto, a eternidade temporal tem sido cada vez mais popular ”“ principalmente entre os filósofos analíticos. A eternidade temporal tem sido apontada como capaz de responder às mesmas questões citadas e de comportar um entendimento da imutabilidade divina num sentido brando que pode ser uma melhor maneira de conciliar a eternidade com a natureza livre e criativa de Deus.
