¿Es la eternidad eterna la única opción para el teísta? Â

Las religiones teístas suponen que Dios tiene ciertos atributos como la omnisciencia, la omnipotencia, la bondad perfecta y la eternidad. Filósofos de la religión someten tales conceptos religiosos a un análisis crítico y generalmente tienen diferentes perspectivas sobre lo que cada uno significa. Hay dos perspectivas principales sobre el atributo de la eternidad: la eternidad envolve tiempo o no envolve tiempo. Durante la mayor parte de la tradición filosófica teísta, la eternidad atemporal fue considerada la mejor interpretación por varias razones, entre ellas: la inmutabilidad absoluta de Dios garantiza su perfección e incorruptibilidad; la atemporalidad responde mejor a las preguntas sobre lo que Dios hacía antes de crear el mundo y cómo reconciliar la omnisciencia y el libre albedrío. Sin embargo, la eternidad temporal ha sido cada vez más popular, especialmente entre los filósofos analíticos. La eternidad temporal ha sido señalada como capaz de responder las mismas preguntas mencionadas y de comprender la inmutabilidad divina en un sentido suave que puede ser una mejor manera de reconciliar la eternidad con la naturaleza libre y creativa de Dios.
