The construction of human knowledge about the use of medicinal plants came from the observation of the animal-plant relationship and the redemption of valuable information in this field of knowledge, little researched in the Brazilian Cerrado, can be helpful in the establishment of new relations and/or maintenance ofthose already existing. The aim of this study was to investigate and register the local knowledge about plants for medicinal purposesin veterinary medicine. The 28 informants were sampled by the "snowball" and subjected to semi-structured interviews. The data collected were subjected to analysis of variance and descriptive statistics. Ethnovet knowledge of men and women was significantly higher among women (P <0.0001). The plants mentioned were collected, botanically identified and grouped into 21 families and 25 genera.FabaceaeandEuphorbiaceaespecies presented more frequently cited (14% each). The growth habit of tree species was predominant (44%). The reported indications were grouped into eight categories of use and DSTe category (disorders of the integumentary system)had the highest factor of consensus among informants (ICF = 0.53). Established use-values reported (RU), using consensus(UCs) and diversity of use (DUs) the species Chiococca brachiata Ruiz & Pav., Chenopodium ambrosioides L., Stryphnodendron adstringens (Mart.) Covilleand Strychnos pseudoquina A. St. - Hil., proved to be those of greatest ethnoveterinary importance for the population searched. This study allowed a preliminary survey of plants for veterinary therapeutic use in the region recovering the veterinarian local knowledge and generated information that may be useful for future research.
