El discurso antirracista y la construcción de un argumento decolonial. Un abordaje desde el Análisis Multimodal del Discurso

The claim by the Afro-Uruguayan collective in relation to an entry in Diccionario de la lengua española (2001) considered by this collective as racist ("trabajar como un negro") is one of the events that unleashed the public debate on racism in Uruguay in recent years.
In this paper I present some of the results of a larger investigation that explores how this debate is reproduced and circulated in the Uruguayan media from the anti-racist campaign "Borremos el racismo del lenguaje" (Let's erase racism from the language) that was disseminated in early 2013. The analysis was conducted using mainly tools from Multimodal Discourse Analysis (Kress and van Leeuwen, 1996, 2001; O'Halloran, 2012; van Leeuwen, 2012). The results that I present show the construction of an argument through of two issues: the emphasis on people, and the relationship between past and present.
