Una mitigación reveladora

The aim of this article is to present the analysis of a short text known as the Declaration of Principles of the Argentinian Navy, published shortly after the overthrow of General Peron (1955). Our approach is based on Althusser’s ideological theory, so we can not separate and isolate this analysis, without the consequent loss of meaning, from the study of the discursive formation to which the text belongs, which includes the entire corpus of the Liberating Revolution. However, realizing such affiliation, the Declaration of Principles provides enough independence for a specific approach. We start with the concept of mitigation taken from pragmatics to explain certain discursive strategies within the text and be able to contrast the mitigated and unmitigated statements of the different points of the programme. The contrast allows us to infer that mitigated statements are directly linked to the ideological coherence of the entire corpus and can be taken as the result of the articulation between the ideological formation of the institution under study and its corresponding manifestation as discursive formation.
