Abstract

The digital culture has enabled new ways of artifacts fruition in museums. This article addresses the importance of interdisciplinary and collaborative work in the design of projects that use digital technologies to create meaningful experiences for the public. As a case study, it presents the V-Horus project, which has as its objective the digital reconstruction of archaeological artifacts and their visualization through virtual reality. In an experimental phase, the project digitally reconstructed a mummy, from the Egyptian collection of the National Museum of Rio de Janeiro, which was destroyed in the fire that occurred in 2018. In the article, a report is presented of both, the development of the experience and its evaluation by the public, assessed through a survey conducted with 153 users. The results show that the experiment expanded the visualization possibilities of museum collections and that the interdisciplinary approach of the project was essential to create an experience that sensitized and engaged the public.
