Abstract

This review is about the book O pensamento museológico de Gilberto Freyre (The Gilberto Freyre museological thought), organized by Mario Chagas and Gleyce Kelly Heitor. We point out how the authors discussed and explored the tensions and contradictions of Freyre's museological conceptions, especially those concerning his Museu do Homem do Nordeste (Brazilian Northeastern Man Museum) (MuHne) project. The publication discusses how the MuHne, in the light of the current debates about museum, identity and society, can today deal critically with its past, when Freyre's concern to socio-anthropologically representation of the common Brazilian Northeastern "man" was its fundamental question.
