Abstract

In this article we reflect on differences between pedagogical museums, school museums and museum schools. Emphasizing the first, the article uses as an example the José Pedro Varela Pedagogy Museum, which was created in a complex that includes the Pedagogy Library and is located in Montevideo, Uruguay. It was founded in 1889 by Alberto Gómez Ruano (1858 - 1923). A unique element that makes it stand out among institutions of this type is the fact that it remains in its original building and maintains much of the “original archives”, as well as the materials aggregated along its 130 years of existence.
