Abstract

This article analyzes the debates about the orchid collecting in Brazil from the 1930s, using both the writings of amateurs and professionals, published in the journal Orchid. We approach the conditions that gave greater evidence of this activity on the national scene, the meanings attributed to orchids, as well as practices aimed at recognizing the Orchidaceae flora as national wealth and heritage.
