For the next issue of InSURgência (v. 9, n. 2, jul/dec. 2022), the dossier's organizing committee invites the academic community, researchers and social movement activists to send their contributions in the form of a scientific article on the 10 (ten) year jubilee of the foundation of the Institute for Research, Rights and Social Movements - IPDMS, according to the guidelines below
2 Dossier “IPDMS, 10 years of history and challenges”
In 2012, in the City of Goiás-GO, two significant historical events took place: the graduation of the first Law class under the National Program for Education and Land Reform – PRONERA; and the foundation of the Institute for Research, Rights and Social Movements – IPDMS.
As a result of 2 (two) national seminars on “Law, Research and Social Movements”, organized in São Paulo-SP (2011) and Cidade de Goiás-GO (2012), the IPDMS was founded in a General Assembly held on April 28, 2012, by 123 (one hundred and twenty three) activists, researchers and popular lawyers from all regions of Brazil, who saw the need to form a space that could be configured as a center for the production of critical, militant and insurgent knowledge that would strengthen the struggles of social movements for rights.
Under the format of an association of national scope, constituted by Regional Sections (North, Northeast 1, Northeast 2, Midwest, Southeast, South, and Student section) that form a Council of Sections, by a national Executive Secretariat and by 10 (ten) Thematic Groups (to which another 3 WGs were later added), the IPDMS was created to carry out research, organize meetings and seminars, teach courses and mini-courses, publish individual and collective works, among other tasks related to the battle of ideas in the legal field.
Over the 10 years of the IPDMS' life, 5 (five) national seminars were held; “InSURgencia: journal of rights and social movements” was founded in partnership with PPGDH-UnB; collectively authored books were published (including the collection “The struggle for land, water and forests and the law”, with articles by students and graduates of PRONERA Law classes, in partnership with the publisher Lumen Juris); a partnership was formed with the Pastoral Land Commission – CPT to carry out the national research entitled “Massacres in the countryside in the New Republic: crime and impunity, 1985-2019”; the “Social Rights and Movements” column was inaugurated on the Portal Brasil de Fato. Among many other initiatives, such as courses and mini-courses in person and, more recently, in virtual formats using the IPDMS channel on YouTube.
With this objective in mind, InSURgência: journal of rights and social movements invites authors to produce reflections, in the form of a scientific article, that contemplate the doings, the learning and the future challenges that the IPDMS will face in the field of themes addressed by the WGs, the territories covered by the Regional Sections, the tools to the battle of ideas mobilized by the Institute (seminars, publications, audiovisual, articles, magazines, etc.), the necessary internationalization of agendas and research groups, the constitution of new research projects and teams. Always with the objective of better influencing the context of the struggles of social movements for rights, marked in recent years by the rise of the extreme right in Brazil and in the world.
