This article revisits the discussion regarding Hegel's Philosophy of Right with regard to a supposed authoritarian character presented by the Hegelian conception of the State. Initially, an overview is outlined involving the issue of the will of the private individual in the face of the norms that govern society. Below is a presentation of the main foundations adopted by Hegel in structuring the State, considering the rationality that must prevail in directing free will to the organic conception that must shape the functioning of state institutions. After this, we proceed to a critical analysis of both the theoretical conception of the Hegelian State itself and the coverage of each political institution and their interrelations in the Philosophy of Right. We conclude with a reflection on how the Hegelian State can be seen, considering the concepts of freedom and democracy in relation to the historical moment of its formulation.
