UNIVERSAL DESIGN: INCLUSION OF THE DEAF COMMUNITY IN LIVE MUSIC CONCERTS
A inclusão da comunidade surda em concertos de música ao vivo

This article explores the chances of creating inclusive live concert environments for deaf communities through Inclusive Design. Is the inclusion of a sign language interpreter in a concert enough to make it inclusive? How can we do this inclusion? Will making live music concerts inclusive increase the interest and diversity of viewers? We start by presenting a theoretical framework of design and inclusion. We explore concepts such as Inclusive Design, Universal Design and Design for All and how they can be applied in services and environments, not just in products. We completed the theoretical framework for deafness, both in terms of its scientific parameters and social approaches. The article then proceeds to problematise through a search conducted with the deaf community in Portugal. The results allow us to present a proposal to include an interpreter specialised in lyrics interpretation on the concert stage.
