This article aims to initiate a discussion about the role of the interpreter-translator of Libras during the production of the academic writing of the deaf student. It proposes a reflection on the skills needed to translate the linguistic pair Libras-Portuguese to carry out the transcription and retextualization of student´s text. In this sense, it discusses the signaled and written productions of the student and their transcription and retextualization carried out by the translator-interpreter of Libras. The results of this work, therefore, highlight the strategies and skills needed to develop and improve the academic writing of the deaf student.
