Tradition and innovation are pertinent themes in A Moreninha, by Joaquim Manoel de Macedo. Of nationalistic character, the work presents an effort to solidify a Brazilian in literature. In this aspect, this article aims to perform an analysis of A Moreninha, looking for elements considered solidification for Brazilian romanticism from the relations established between characters throughout the book, analyzing what influence they have in the construction of the narrative that, in advance, provoked a turn around in national literary production. In addition, it is sought to analyze the influence of such relationships between the characters in the construction of the novel, starting from the assumption that these elements contributed to a good reception of the work over the years. For the analysis, a critical reading was used as theoretical support Candido (1972), Eco (1993) and Silva (1999), among others. The results reveal different romantic expectations as well as different styles that explain the brilliance of the characters' way of acting. Patriotism, loving fidelity and patriarchalism are the bases that the author makes use of so that, in a national character, he could "liberate" Brazilian Literature from foreign influences and thus solidify, strengthen Brazil from its literary production.
