The social value of documentary heritage in the media: challenges and opportunities

The constant flow of information that its generated in the mass media, increased notably in the digital age, what it supposes a series of challenges and opportunities regarding the management of your archives, in order to preserve this documentary heritage and to guarantee that is respected the social value that undoubtedly they have. The aim of this presentation is to point out the commitment that the mass media must preserve and manage the documentary heritage that they generate and use, as well as the form in which they facilitate society's access, especially in the case of the media of public ownership. The materials that shape this heritage, are a documentary basic source for a long time, and it will be even more in the future, for the knowledge of the history of the society of last centuries. The situation has changed positively in the digital environment, but it continues existing the risk of loss on behalf of this "heritage" and the access to these documents continues being a hanging question.
