I Nyoman Kariasa (49 years old) is a musician and professor of the undergraduate course in music at the Institut Seni Indonesia - Denpasar (Indonesia Institute of Arts - Denpasar). Born in the village of Pinda, in the regency of Gianyar, Kader, as he is known in his village and in the academic community, is the leader and member of the gamelan semar pengulingan group called Pinda Sari (Pinda’s Essence). Kariasa also teaches traditional Balinese music to foreign students in the Darmasiswa Scholarship Program - an initiative of the Indonesian Ministry of Education that allows students from several countries study local culture and language for a period of one year, in different universities spread across the Indonesian archipelago. Kariasa has international experience teaching at universities in the United States.
